This year’s Xchange 2025 marked another milestone in Modmation’s journey – not only did we return as presenters, but for the first time ever, we also joined as a proud sponsor of the event.
Held at the University of Technology Sydney from June 25th to 26th, 2025, buildingSMART Australasia’s annual summit once again brought together industry professionals, government agencies, and thought leaders to explore how open standards are transforming the built environment. The event followed the successful two-day format of technical deep-dives on Day 1 and a strategic industry conference on Day 2.
Day 1 – Technical Short Course
On Wednesday, June 25th, Holger de Groot kicked off the introductory stream with his session, “Getting Started with openBIM.” Aimed at professionals new to the world of openBIM, the session unpacked foundational concepts and clarified the often-confused acronyms like IFC, BCF, IDS, and more. Holger’s presentation demystified how these standards connect, where to start, and why openBIM matters – especially for organisations navigating digital transformation. If you missed the session or would like to revisit the content, you can access the presentation here.
Day 2 – Conference and PCERT Promotion
Thursday, June 26th was another highlight for Modmation as we participated as a sponsor, promoting the buildingSMART Professional Certification (PCERT) Program as an approved training provider.
Our booth provided information about the PCERT ‘Entry’ and ‘Foundation’ levels, and we were pleased to offer free ‘Entry’ certification to all attendees. It was encouraging to see the growing interest in upskilling and formal recognition of openBIM knowledge within the industry.
A Growing Movement
Xchange 2025 once again demonstrated the growing commitment across the industry – from private sector leaders to government agencies – to adopt open standards and enhance digital project delivery capability. From local case studies to international insights, the event showcased how interoperability is becoming a strategic priority, not just a technical goal.
We are grateful to buildingSMART Australasia for the opportunity to contribute to the event and look forward to continuing our support of the community through training, advocacy and guidance – as well as by providing resources to clients seeking strong information management capabilities.
