The Xchange 2024 summit is the first of its kind, a brand new buildingSMART Australasia annual event running over 2 days which was held at the University of Technology Sydney, Australia from July 03rd to 04th, 2024.
The Xchange summit combines a unique technical learning experience on Day 1, and a line-up of handpicked speakers who will discuss how Digital transformation and open standards are changing the infrastructure industry on Day 2. This inaugural event was a must for anyone working in the infrastructure sector.
Holger de Groot and Maciej Wypych were featured speakers at the summit, presenting their industry talks on Wednesday, July 03rd, 2024 and Thursday, July 04th, 2024.
On Day 1 – Technical Short Course, Holger was the first to present, leading the session with an introduction to core buildingSMART openBIM standards and services such as UCM, IDM, MVD, IFC, BCF, bSDD, IDS and openCDE. His presentation set the stage for the day’s learning by explaining what openBIM is and why it is crucial for the infrastructure industry. The day wrapped up with discussions on practical applications and the future of open standards, providing attendees with the tools and knowledge to advance digital transformation in their work.
On Day 2 – Conference, the summit continued with a series of presentations and panels focused on digital transformation in the infrastructure sector and the importance of open standards. Maciej presented a case study on the development of a large-scale, multi-platform project that emphasises a technology-driven approach. In his presentation, Maciej highlighted how the project aligns with ISO 19650 and the Victorian Digital Asset Strategy (VDAS). He explained how the project’s openBIM approach promotes transparency and interconnectivity, facilitating seamless data exchange across different platforms.
